Did
You Know?
-
Your
vote DOES count,
more than you would first imagine. In our democracy,
your vote is a powerful privilege. By your one
vote, you CAN change the outcome of an election.
When you do not vote, it allows people who are
not like you to have THEIR WAY because
they voted.
-
The
voting record of long-term incumbent Phil English
shows that he does NOT act in the best interests
of the people he claims to represent.
-
Under
Phil English's watch, the district has lost over
23% of its manufacturing jobs, seen its health and
drug costs climb astronomically, buried 7 of its
children in a war which wasn't necessary, had billions
of dollars cut from area veteran's benefits, and
seen the overspending of government at unconscionable
levels--all things for which Mr. English voted.
-
There
is no chance for the people of a democracy to be
represented until its representatives cease to be
owned by the corporate special interests who so
often work against the well-being of the citizenry.
-
Phil
English has taken millions of dollars
from special interest groups during the last 10
years. That leaves a reasonable person asking the
question: "Whom does he represent when
he casts his Congressional vote -- you
or the special interest groups who saw his
"for sale" sign around
his neck"?
-
It
takes at least $250,000 to run
a successful campaign for the U.S. Congress. The
majority of the campaign money will be spent on
media advertising. Isn't it time that
the message is about those relevant issues that
are of concern to all of us -- health care,
social security, outsourcing of jobs, illegal immigration,
etc?

A
Personal Note from
Steve Porter to You.
Thank you for visiting my web site.
I appreciate this opportunity to present my position on so
many important matters.
WHY
I AM AN INDEPENDENT
When the Democrats won both houses of Congress in 2006, they
did so because they promised to end the war in Iraq and to
start fixing the American economy. They pledged to hold Bush
& Co. accountable for the many unconstitutional things
done in his administration, not the least of which was to
take testimony under oath and hold impeachment hearings. On
the day after the elections, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "took
impeachment off the table," and from that day on, the
Democrats did nothing of substance to fulfill their promises.
I did not want the blood of the war in Iraq or the blame for
our economic decline on my own hands. I felt betrayed by the
party, not simply because it had for the most part turned
its back on me, but because, like Bush himself, it had lied
to the American people in order to win political power. I
therefore left the party and re-registered as an independent.
It is as an independent that I now run for Congress.
But I did more than re-register. Having been trained as part
of my doctoral studies to research, I began to look into the
behavior of the Democratic Party to try to determine why they
had misled the voters and prolonged the war. What I found
astounded me to the point where I wrote a book about it. The
book is entitled AMERICA'S
DYING DEMOCRACY. It was published in February
of 2008 and is distributed by BCH
books . You may order it online
by clicking HERE.
(It is also available online with Amazon and it will soon
be in bookstores around the world.)
What I found was that BOTH MAJOR PARTIES
are absolutely owned by special interests in key industries
(finance, real estate, insurance, health, defense, energy
etc). These industries have given billions of dollars in lobbyist
money to just about every member of Congress, and those members
are obligated to work first and foremost for the special interests
which pay to get them and keep them in office. Only secondarily,
if at all, do our representatives work for the people.
We will not solve any of the problems which now beset us--our
declining economy, the war in Iraq, the affordability of health
care, global pollution, the solvency of Social Security, the
development of clean energy, illegal immigration, or the improvement
of our schools--until we change the political equation
in Washington. To do that, we must elect honest, un-owned,
independents like myself, people who will work for the citizens
of our nation before the special interests.
Toward that end, I hope every voter will read my book and
support my candidacy.
Please bookmark this site and visit it frequently for new
articles of interest.
I hope to earn
your support and trust the "old fashioned" way by
being honest and talking about those issues that are important
and affect your life."
Sincerely,
Steven Porter, Ph.D.
