• I will strengthen Social Security, not privatize

• I will promote alternate energy like solar
and wind power

• I will never lie to constituents—ever!

Steve Porter's Bio
Steve was born in New York City
in 1943 and grew up in the New York Metropolitan
area. He earned BS, MA, PhD, and PD degrees in Fine
Arts and Educational Administration, and taught
on the college and secondary levels from 1967 to
2003. His last twenty years in education were spent
as a public school administrator and college professor
in Binghamton, New York and at Mercyhurst College
in Erie, Pennsylvania. He has received many awards
and honors in Fine Arts and Education, including
two Grammy Awards for the Rod Serling School of
Fine Arts which he founded.
Steve began publishing in 1969 and continues to
write and publish. To date he has written over 125
works for the concert and theatrical stage as well
as 17 books ranging in topics from Fine Arts and
Education to Political Philosophy and Fiction.
A lifelong Democrat, Steve was active in the 1968
Presidential Campaign of Senator Robert Kennedy.
In 1988, he worked for a physician friend running
for the New York State Senate. When his friend subsequently
moved from the state, the Democratic Party approached
him to run for that office, which he did. During
his residence in Binghamton, Steve was also very
active in the Sister Cities Program initiated by
Binghamton Mayor Juanita Crabb. With the Mayor,
he traveled several times to Binghamton’s
Sister City of Borovichi in Russia on cultural,
diplomatic, and commercial missions. After moving
from New York to the Erie area, Steve became the
candidate for Congress in the 3rd Congressional
District of Pennsylvania.
Steve has been married to his wife, Rita, since
1974. They have no children. For the past twenty
years, Steve and his wife have devoted their time
to the cause of animal welfare. For many years,
Rita was the Area Coordinator for Guiding Eyes for
the Blind, and together they have raised several
Guide Dog puppies. More recently, their work with
animals has expanded to include the rescue of many
abused and abandoned dogs.
Steve continues to be active as a director and educator
and enjoys several leisure activities including
an avid interest in golf.
